If I didn’t have BricaBox…

February 12th, 2008 ·

… I’d totally apply for the analyst position open at Union Square Ventures.
Last time they made this call, I had no idea I’d be doing what I’m doing today. I actually “came to” in the tech scene right as my buddy, Andrew Parker, got the job. The whole thing turned me on to the power [...]

Current TV Site Relaunch Worked

January 29th, 2008 ·

Back on October 15th, Current TV relaunched it’s website. Now it’s filing for an IPO, which made me wonder, “Was the relaunch a success?”
Check out this Alexa graph.
Lucky for us, when they relaunch they dropped the .tv and picked up the .com, making it easier to see precisely when they relaunched and how their traffic [...]

12 People I Want to Meet in 2008

January 14th, 2008 · 2 Comments

One of the things I did to ring in the New Year was compile a list of 12 people I want to meet in 2008 (one for each month, duh). By meet, I don’t mean “shake hands” and move on (even though my awesome Microsoft Word clipart above makes it seem that way). These are [...]

January 4th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Was yesterday dumb question day on Ask the VC?
Two questions (with answers, supposedly) on Ask the VC on January 3rd:
Do Venture Capitalists Fund A Company With An Intent To Steal It?
and
Do All Venture Capitalists Come From Harvard or Stanford?
Come on! I’ve submitted better questions than those!
Read Mark Peter Davis’ blog if you want some more [...]

Should Meg Whitman Go? Blodget thinks “maybe”

December 7th, 2007 ·

I’m a sucker for good headlines, so when I read “Meg Whitman Should Go” in the subject of my email inbox this morning (yes, I receive news in more than just my RSS reader — read about it here), I could do no less than make the Alley Insider article the first thing I read [...]

More than 433

November 19th, 2007 ·

I made fun of Yahoo!’s Kickstart app for allowing me to be user # 433. I really couldn’t believe that a Yahoo! product, for gosh sakes, could have that few users at the time I signed up (the first day of public beta). And in that post I said,
We expect to have that many [...]

Lessons of the Last Bubble

July 20th, 2007 ·

I may be a little late in reading this article, but I just put down Lessons of the Last Bubble (reg. req.) as published in the Spring 2007 issue of Strategy + Business. The article’s thesis is revealed in its subtitle — “Smaller bet can make the next technological boom more productive and enduring.” — [...]

Incubator, HotPlate, or Digital District?

May 8th, 2007 ·

There’s a lot going on in the incubator space, and Darren catches up with it in this post. In the comments section of his post, I observe/question:“I have an increasing fear that incubators are not sustainable, which is why I really like the “hot-plate” model, of providing the underlying economic efficiencies to groups and [...]
