nextNY Blog Goes Live! / by Nate Westheimer

Today, members of the fast-growing network of young, New York City-based tech entrepreneurs called nextNY, launched the nextNY blog, which was founded to provide news and analysis from the point of view of the group's unique and uniquely powerful membership. Kicking off the blog is a post by nextNY founder Charlie O'Donnell, who is also the founder of Director of Consumer Products of Oddcast, one of dozens of influential New York City-based tech companies.

One of the main reasons for the founding of the nextNY blog stemmed from of a series of articles claiming that starting a successful company based anywhere outside of Silicon Valley is inherently impossible or more challenging. We think this is wrong. nextNYers firmly believe the unique perspective offered by a community outside the West Coast Bubble allows them to be more agile, objective, and in touch with the technology needs of average consumers. While New York City may not be considered a tech-haven, nextNYers benefit from the rich array of cultural and business centers the City hosts, and believe the well-rounded nature of life in the Big Apple makes their voice as a tech-oriented community valuable. In short, we benefit by NOT being the economic focal point of our community.

I am very excited to see how the nextNY blog goes, and look forward to posting semi-frequently on the site.
